Ice Plant Juice Bath
Kind of substance
Ice plant juice
Guiding principle for the application
The distinguishing characteristic of this plant is the watery element, revealed in its fleshy stems and leaves, and in its innumerable little vesicles reminiscent of ice crystals. Mineral salts gather in small crystals through evaporation. If the juice is pressed from the leaves, it has a calming and soothing effect on itchy, dry or cracked skin. The pain diminishes, the redness and swelling are reduced.
Guiding Principle for the substance
Indications
- Neurodermatitis (see example case)
- Allergy
- Eczema
Instructions
60 ml juice in 60 l of water (ca. 37°C or 98.6°F), duration: 30 minutes. Lightly “massage” the patient’s body with a washcloth in the bath. After the bath, do not dry the patient’s body but lightly wrap it in the sheet. Then generously apply Mesembryanthemum 10% ointment with a slightly circular motion. Put on cotton underwear. This bath is best given in the evenings, because it relieves itching and pain, thereby often enabling the patient to sleep well.
Since this juice is not available everywhere, equisetum can be used as a substitute (ideally an oil dispersion bath), followed by the application of Mesembrianthemum ointment.
Case example
A 3-year-old child with itchy, dry and yet oozing dermatitis, who came to Lanzarote with his mother and grandmother for a cure, was bathed on the second day in a mesembryanthemum bath. The child had been unable to sleep for weeks due to pain and itching. His exhausted mother was assisted by his grandmother, so that one of them always had a chance to sleep through the night.
The child was bathed (60 ml mesembrianthemum juice in 60 l of warm water at body temperature) and calmed down already during the bath. After the child was also rubbed with a 10% ointment, he slept through the night. The application was continued daily for four weeks, the child then was able to return home with intact skin. At home the child continued to receive treatments with the mesembrianthemum 10% ointment and was free of symptoms for a number of months.
Unfortunately the symptoms returned later, but they were not as severe as before.
